We have an old house in the country between Perryton and Liberal. We wanted to have a bid to install central heat and air. They wanted $125 just to come out and make the bid. When I asked why and said it's only 20 minutes from Perryton, he said "It's also 20 minutes back and I have a lot of other jobs." I told him flatly to forget it. He offered to talk to someone and see if they could do something. I said, 'No, you've already as much as said you don't want the work. Goodbye." We received bids from Liberal, Beaver, Turpin, and Guymon. None of them charged for coming out to do the bid. I was a carpenter for years. Time and travel for bids was just the cost of doing business. You make up for it by giving a good bid and earning the business. Too bad for Bob Jay's, the bid we accepted was over $11,000 for a 1,400 square foot, one story home.
